About

Bio

Iā€™m an artist from the UK working primarily within the expanded field of painting.

My work stems from an interest in how elements from the environment can be described in abstract terms and remade as paintings within a controlled space like a studio, a process that results in a dialogue between things that are lost and things that are found, or uncovered.

It’s often the strange qualities of a place, the mystery of a space no matter how banal that influences a piece of work. When working on a painting or sculpture it becomes its own object with a secret to be revealed. It could be seen as the inverse of an archeaological dig ā€“ the past gets worked over in layers simultaneously pushing the present to the surface, a sedimentary effect that evokes the passage of time, the analogue of environmental flux.

I see over-painting as an act of redaction that bears a semblence of truth. Paintings can be the redemptive action of a space – a space remade as a buriel, wrapped in hinterland.
