About me

I’m an artist from the UK who’s work considers the informal approach to painting and the activity of making as mutable processes in relation to abstract ideas about environmental space. Although primarily rooted in painting it takes influences from Abstract Art, Moscow Conceptualism, some aspects of psychogeography, science fiction, and ideas about environmental change and decay.

Like many artists I’m informed by my background. I was raised in a small village in the midlands during the 1980’s, when the local farm still employed a lot of people living there including my father. There was a lot of farmland with hilly fields and wooded areas. I was aware of a contrast between the banality of an over-managed natural landscape and the workforce and machinery that dwelt upon it. I spent a lot of time outdoors when the sun was bright, or hiding inside when the weather was not. I have also lived in other parts of the Cotswolds as well as north west Norfolk, in a small village near the coast. When I was in my early twenties I decided moved to London, a city I had fallen in love with much earlier because of its different energy, diverse population and harder landscape. The contrast between the urban and rural and the edges of this relationship became an important source of inspiration for my artwork.
